"On your walls, O Jerusalem, I have set watchmen; all the day and all the night they shall never be silent." Is. 62:8
You who put the Lord in remembrance, take no rest, and give him no rest. Is 62:7
"because of his importunity, he will rise and give him whatever he needs." Luke 11:8
We commit to regular, scheduled times of intercession. This time can be short or long, weekly, biweekly, or monthly. The key element is a commitment to ongoing prayer by the body of Christ in San Pedro.
The Prayer Center at 1428a W. 7th Street, San Pedro, is a great place to pray. God’s presence is powerful and conducive to prayer. We'll give you special access to the facility. You may, however, if needed, do your commitment from anywhere if necessary.
This is best orchestrated by the Holy Spirit. Listen prayerfully to Him. At our Intercessor Orientation, we'll help you sign up on our prayer calendar.
We receive a Prayer Guide that is regularly updated to use as we intercede. This is available from the Prayer Center in printed form and you may always access it directly online. Our unified, focused prayer will greatly build faith.
We encourage each other and "stir one another up to love and good works." The community of Christ in San Pedro will see God's hand powerfully as we intercede together.
It's simple. Let us know by clicking the action button. We'll get in touch shortly, invite you to a brief Intercessor orientation, explain a few practical steps, so you can begin this adventure in intercession.
And he said to them, “Which of you who has a friend will go to him at midnight and say to him, ‘Friend, lend me three loaves, for a friend of mine has arrived on a journey, and I have nothing to set before him’; and he will answer from within, ‘Do not bother me; the door is now shut, and my children are with me in bed. I cannot get up and give you anything’? I tell you, though he will not get up and give him anything because he is his friend, yet because of his importunity he will rise and give him whatever he needs.” (Luke 11:5-8)
On your walls, O Jerusalem, I have set watchmen; all the day and all the night they shall never be silent. You who put the Lord in remembrance, take no rest, and give him no rest. (Isaiah 62:6-7)
Prayer is the one power on earth that commands the power of heaven, to draw down the treasures into the life of earth for the blessing of others.
The model intercessor first gets from God, and then gives to others what they have secured.
Here are the elements of true intercession:
Urgent Need. The friend came at midnight with a need. We must open eye and heart to the need around us. And there are many who need a Savior.
Willing love. The neighbor gave up a night’s sleep and took his friend into his house. We cannot rest in our work if souls are not saved. True love must pray.
Sense of impotence. The friend had nothing to give. Of ourselves we have nothing. Intercession is our only hope.
Prayer of faith. The friend has a rich neighbor. He is sure if he asks, he will receive. Faith makes him leave his home at midnight. God is waiting, delighting to bestow blessings in answer to our prayer.
Importunity that prevails. The faith of the friend met unexpected resistance, “I cannot get up and give you anything.” But he persisted. We must pray with importunity to inherit the blessing.
Certainty of a reward. “Because of his importunity, he will raise and give him whatever he needs.” Let all lovers of souls, take courage. Your prayers will yield success.
